'92 De Rosa SLX

Well, if I recall correctly bought the frame in 94 (serial 2/254 if anyone can decipher this) and built it up myself with a 105/600 mix and downtube shifters to not exceed my budget. Rode it a few years, then stored it at a relative after graduation (in as new condition) and almost forgot about it. Riding it wasn't initially part of the agreement, but somehow I'm glad it wasn't sold after all this time. Now back in my possession. :)

Several flaws
- filthy
- paint chips and scratches
- top tube decal scraped off
- chorus seatpost obviously ripped out with a pipe wrench :roll:
- wheels need trueing
- tires shot
- …
- luckily nothing that can't be fixed

Thinking about replacing the dropbar with this 3ttt combo for casual riding (No, I won't use the seatpost):

What kind of handlebar is this? Moustache? Ladies? Training? Crap? Guess it's from the eighties. Engraved on both sides so may also be flipped? Maybe someone even has a model name...



What tire width can a Mavic MA2 rim take? Thought about 28 mm. Critical? Any help greatly appreciated.

They look a bit like Nitto Moustache bars. I think they are a bit hipster / fixie for that bike, personally, but they'd look a bit better with Crosstop brakes.

if there is one italian bike thats going to hold value its one of these.[made in house]

looks like the old hutchinson kevlars.tyres from the 80's/90's ? :)
its your bike mate.
but because its quite rare....i would think about full curved drops.
i mean you do realise,in terms of classic italian race bikes, its well up there!! :?
 
Yes, they look a bit like Nitto but have less reach and width. There are similar „tourist“ bars in the '78 3TTT catalogue but not this one.

Maybe dropbars are the better choice and I'll keep them for a „golden arrow“ project. Although they really look a bit hipster, I can't help admitting to myself that I like it. :cool:

Hutchinson Kevlar, correct. I think they were cheap and that's why I bought them. The new ones will probably be Clément Strada LLG skinwalls. :)

2/254 – 92 frame 254. Makes sense? 35th anniversary edition had 35/XXX serials. Mystery unraveled. ;)

Anyway, disassembled and everything given a good clean and polish. BB still running smooth. Touching up the paint is next.

The bars are called Trial/Bassa. http://www.velobase.com/ViewComponent.a ... 52ace67134 but will be replaced with dropbars again.

In the meantime I've collected some Shimano 6400 parts: Pedals - clipless and standard, bar-end shifters and scored one of those nice hs-6400 stems that arrives in a day or two. Let's see if I can also get a seatpin. :)

Very nice. I agree that proper drops will be more befitting such a classy machine. It was at De Rosa where Mr Merckx learnt his frame building after all, so they must be good! :LOL:

Parts for the final build are almost complete:





Most expensive so far where the nos shifters for 25 euro dollars. 10 the pair for the nos pedals, 20 for this top condition stem. Am I on a roll or does nobody want this junk? :? :LOL:

Gorgeous bike! I like the 600 stems but really I'm a sucker for the chromed ITM stem in the opening pictures. Those stems..chrome.. really...keep it!

Thanks. But the ITM stem was too long for me and has already found another home. The 90 mm Shimano feels much better.
Seatpost has arrived. :D


Thougt about replacing the remaining 105 with 600 parts, but was outbid on a new front derailleur and just bought new brake shoes, so they will stay.

Just waiting for a tandem inner to keep the cabling under the tape.


Edit: Changed my mind once more and aquired new 600 brakes :facepalm: :LOL:
