91 Zaskar build

So I bought this 91 Zaskar a few weeks ago.
Original owner with a Suntour XC Pro build and pace RC35 forks.
Size 18” but advertised as a 20”.

The first thing to go was the forks as just don’t like the look of them.
I’ve stripped the bike down today and gave it a good clean/polish up to remove the oxidation of the alloy.

The next decision is wether to use the Suntour or do a full Deore XT swap from 91.?

Also, I’ll probably fit some correct GT 2x4 forks and try and find a Flip Flop stem.

Any advice or input would be good!

Suntour stuff is hard to find in the USA and the flip flop stem is creaky and flexy. XT and Kore would be a robust direction.

Nice find. I have an early ‘91 too. Owned from new. If you’re planning to ride it, XT all the way. If it’s a garage hanger, XC Pro. XC Pro always shifted like a bag of gravel on my Zaskar. If you’re going as far as original rigid forks and flip-flop, XC Pro seems the way. I’d sleep better knowing it was OG spec. ✊

I hope you didn't toss those forks in the bin. Great looking Zaskar, there's a lot of them out there lately.

Good choice. I pretty much ran Manitou 1 from new. The chunky aluminium / grey really suited the frame. Something else to polish too. :)
