Major Problem!!! I've been trying to call the powder coater for the last few days and went to see them on Wednesday. No one there. I've called around and it turns out that they've shut down and not let me know. I've made a few enquiries and the frame and forks might be in another unit next door. The owner of the other place is looking to see if its there and will let me know later on.

R u efing jokin ?

Sadly not. I wouldn't mind but he'd done work for me before and was recommended by a very well known local frame builder.
Worst case I've lost the frame and forks. The bike cost me £30 but I've spent a few quid on other parts for it. Fingers crossed it's sitting in the unit waiting for me.

Just found out that the unit has been cleared out today. The new bloke remembers a grey powder coated frame going on the wagon with a load of other scrap metal.
The work had even been done.
Oh well. I'm sure others are worse off than I am from it.

This stinks, another rare frame lost forever

Thats the thing thats annoyed me. The money doesn't matter its the fact that a decent frame has ended up going for scrap in the back of some pikey's tipper.
I have an e-stay Saracen at work which I haven't looked at for 18 months. I shall just build that up instead and use the parts I had set aside.

After my rather bad experience with the last one I have been on the hunt for something and this one came up. I think its a 1990 Comp but has been resprayed or blown over really badly. I can scratch the respray off with my fingernail . It seems that the culprit masked off the USA sticker on the seattube and painted around it. The bottom bracket cable guide was also sprayed over.
It was £30 for a reason and that reason (apart from the crap paint job) is that the bottom bracket has been cross threaded.

I'm going to try and get rid of the 'recent work' on it and see how it is after that. The BB threads aren't too bad by the look so I'll take it and get the threads cleaned out a bit by the LBS if they can.
I still have some of the parts from the previous project that can go on and I have a part XTR and part XT groupset that I think will go on it eventually.

I took some 2000 grit paper to the paint and it came off in flakes. I noticed a smell of gloss paint as i did
It and realised that its had 2 coats of interior gloss and a bit of varnish in places too🤣. With that in mind im waiting til i get hold of some forks and will get it blasted and powder coated i think.
In the meantime ill ask the lbs to chase the bb threads out.
