9 Speed is nearly 25 years old

Well, we’re up to 12 speed so I think 9 can reasonably be called retro. It even came with three chainrings, three!

No thumb-shifters though, you can’t win them all.

But two fell off the front and the derailleur and shifter fell off too
In 1989 the 1 chain ring or 2 or 3 was popular. There was 26” wheels and 28” called hibrid, there was a automatic Rear derailleur, in the 90s noleen introduced the first electronic suspension, dropper post are from the 80s, electronic stuff for RD from Mavic etc etc

So what is new? The geometry and 12 speed?

We are taking old ideas and improve them and make them better.

For me 10 speed x2 or x3 are better than 12. Cheaper cassettes, less jumps between cogs etc

You could get compatible Shimano durace(?) downtube shifters that could be turned into thumbshifters though.

In the year 2000 I bought a 1999 Carrera Hellcat full sus mtb that was on sale in my Local Halfords. For very few short months I was the guy with the latest bling bike amongst my friends. 27 speed transmission, Magura hydraulic disc brakes and then near top end Suntour coil forks. It only seems like yesterday but now your telling me 9 speed is over 20 years of age😳
