89 Smokey Pink GT

Re:

Few new pictures showing the new pink grips, tubing stamp, and GT steel handlebar.

Triple butted tubing on a Tequesta? Very cool.

Would anybody know if these frames were Toyo built or a Taiwanese welded frame? There isn't a "built in" sticker on the frame.

Serial # is T8903 T0 3844

Thanks!

I'm not sure I like the pink grips, but that is lovely.

Thanks for posting the serial, I'm collecting GT serials (hope you don't mind!) but don't have any other eighties ones to compare it to.

please can any non pink loving retrobikers exit this thread. This bike needs pink like we need retro
saddle next :) pink late 80's gt bmx not too difficult to find please please please

Re:

Love it!

Very surprised they were using triple butted, the early 90's Karakorams only managed double.

The pink grips really have to go though

Re:

The pink grips were installed on a whim, i've had them sitting around for years without a appropriate bike to put them on. A good friend of mine won them at a race in 1993!

I think a black seatpost would look nice, and I have a nasty GT seat I plan on recovering for this project (pictures to be posted as I proceed).

Also, I do appreciate the originality of the bike i'm not in love with the plastic cantis...yuck. Or the super heavy crankset which probably weighs 10lbs.

Another bummer is the non-original rear wheel (i've put on a different set for these pictures). Original wheelset looked awesome with the gray Araya rims on black hubs. I'll keep an eye out for a replacement rear.

Re:

just adding one more pic........pinkness....yummy.

Did this ever receive its black seat post or upgraded parts? It is very worthy of them. I'd be interested how the frame weight compares to the 90s higher models that use lower tube sets (as Chris mentioned).

Unfortunately I sold this bike last year. Last I heard it made it's way down south and is currently cruising the trails in sunny California.

The bike wasn't a lightweight but the frame details and paint were outstanding.
