anyone give me advice? just picked up from my mate mint green splatter explosif....but it takes the u brake rear!, am i wasting my time?
to make it mint it will want painting, but first are the early ones desirable?
when i was told i had an explosif coming i expected and early 95/96, didnt even know of the first generation until now. WHAT DO YOU REKON GUYS?
and its just the frame,no forks??

will come out great with the right attention and parts.......if your repainting it you can really make it your own too.....stick some picks up!.... :D

just got back with it! i thought buyers remorse was setting in the steerer head tube on these early frames are massive! im frightend of not finding age related forks

yeah, most projects are best done over time.....the access to parts and knowlege you will get here is second to none, the friendly nature of the site is great, and you will find what you need here.....sit back, relax and enjoy the process!......its most enjoyable if you build alongside another useable bike to take away the urgency and my best bit of advise is to wait for the right bits, not buying in haste only to not use the bits you rush at on the for sale forum.......what size is the headtube?....im guessing its 1'?.....

If you're talking about an 88' Explosif it will be in "Pistachio" with splatter.....would be a real shame to respray if the paint is not too bad....it would keep it's value alot more too. These early Konas can be quite sought after....and they're pretty rare.

They are 1" headtube...and the headtubes were really long in comparison to bikes that followed.

The Project 2 forks have obviously been removed but they are easy enough to find....but i guess you would either have to fit another colour (eg. black) or try and respray them to match (v tricky).

V nice to look at but mine doesn't handle quite as well as later models...

I'd still snap it up though!!

hi guys, had an hour getting the bottom bracket out today...all good, and the threads are all fine. Summary.....im going to try and find forks first and i think 26.6 seat post? would like to make a touch more modern but going to see what bits are out there first! You never know whats best at the outset and im so glad ive asked for advice this time, thanks to you all so far!! does anyone know if "u brake" bosses on the frame are the same height as vee mounts? ive noticed they dont have the 3 stage pin holes for spring tension but have had vee in the past (lizard i believe?) that have a spring tension lock to the rear.
finally anyone see anything in the next few days drop me a pm
thanks again to everyone

U brake bosses aren't compatible with any other type of brake, stick with the u brake.

Seatpost is probably 26.4mm.

Don't chuck the old parts away or strip the frame unless the paint is really bad or needs rust repair, it's a classy high end machine treat it with respect.
