Re: 1981 Claud Butler Colstar - DuraAce #035210

Approx 15 months of hunting... I think there was also a titanium big ring, but I’ve never seen one.

On with the blingage..

Just collected the forks from Qualitychrome in Hull... very pleased with the result, everything lovely & shiny, Campagnolo & the all important Reynolds Butted stamps still visible... all for about half the price of Ashford Chrome..

Nothing wrong with that work, I'd be more than happy with that

Parcel of rusty stuff in my garage on its way to you soon I fancy.

Fantastic job on those forks.
This is looking very upmarket so far :)

Yes, very happy, nice guys as well... small outfit with plenty of bicycle bits & frames etc being worked on when I popped in.

These forks would have been £90 posted inc VAT (I of course did a deal for cash on collection :xmas-wink: )

Thanks Jamie... just waiting for the shout from Donald so that I can go pick up the frame...can't be long as they wrap up the shop in 21 working days time!
Something a bit special there as well, as seeing as it would be the last frame I would have done by them I've gone for something a bit more fancy than a plain 1 colour, more 60's than 80's really.... just thought it might be fun to have it look 20 years older then it is at first glance , then to notice it's dressed in kit 20 years younger :xmas-big-grin:

Re: 1981 Claud Butler Colstar - DuraAce #035210

Sounds very intriguing, looking forward to seeing it.

Really useful to know.

What sort of prep to you have to do to stuff to make it ready for a firm like this to take it in? I'm looking at a seatpost and stem that's got the chrome corroded off the top halves of each, would I need to do some stripping / prep to them, or do they take care of prepping surfaces etc?

From the look of the stuff in their job queue boxes, nothing....
although mine were in excellent condition, having only just been sand blasted and painted back in June.... so I don’t know if that had any effect on the price...

Looking good Chris. I just dropped them an email and it's £80+vat+post for my corroded forks on my Gran Sport.

Nice slightly-more-than-halfway house price between my local £35 quote and Ashford chroming at £175 for a job that looks great.

Tempted.

Re: 1981 Claud Butler Colstar - DuraAce #035210

Dawn raid (7:15am  ) on Bob Jacksons has the Colstar back where it belongs.... & I had a very long an interesting chat with The Donald about the future of BJ's :xmas-wink:

With the new Campag drop outs, new allen key brake bridge and new 130mm rear spacing, I'm really looking forward to getting this bike back together, but apparently I have to "join in" with family TV time :| IMG_9069.jpg IMG_9068.jpg IMG_9067.jpg IMG_9066.jpg
