80's Campag Super Record BB Options?

Yes, that is a Super/Nuovo Record crank. You will need the '68-SS' or '68-SS-120 (+1.0, +1.5)' asymmetrical axle. Or a similar axle from another (Italian) brand as Mark pointed out.

OK thanks, Mark those nasty crank bolts are going, got some Royce ones to replace them with. Hopefully the current ones are self extracting as would save some hassle! I need to get the arms off anyway as the rings are running slightly out of true so I think the spider is out of line, I'll get the BB out at the same time and stick some pics up to see what you guys think.

Thanks for the help!

BB tools

I can't identify your bottom bracket in the pictures but normally you'd need something like these:

(the three on the left).

There are different and sometimes cheaper variants from other brands.

interesting.. from what I can see of the BB with the cranks on it looks like it has internal splines, not the sort the above tools would suit, so god knows what it is! I think I'll get the cranks off and go from there.

Probably an aftermarket replacement then. If you post a picture again we might be able to tell you what you need for disassembly.

Hi all, still haven't got round to getting the crank arms off, but have been looking into what I want in terms of a new BB, I came across a company called Phil Wood in the states, these BB's look pretty nice and there available in ISO/campag 5 deg offset and 115mm axle, which I gather is just what I need.

However I have been reading that you can fit ISO cranks to a JIS axle providing you spec the JIS axle 1-2mm shorter, is there any truth in this? Only wondering as may give me more options on the second hand market.

Gazelleer thanks for all these links!! Very helpful, I'm shocked to see how little is in the UK though, especially being as I need British and I've not exactly seen a a shortage of UK made frames with these cranks, maybe they're just very reliable so don't come up often!

In answer to your question about weight, this is one of the reasons why I'm not massively keen on getting an original campag one, ideally I do want the lightest and stiffest BB I can get, and I expect the likes of Royce/Phil Wood are better in these areas, and you'd hope are a better design with better bearings as well. Also some of the NOS Campag ones aren't far off what the Royce/Phil Woods cost, so it would make sense to go for the more modern item.

I'm going to keep an eye on some of your links though, as with everything if I can the right deal i'm sure I could live with a Campag one!!
