Got a lovely trek 400 STP frame just needing forks to finish but spotted a cannondale scalpel 800 on fleabay. Whats; the better rig? The trek's super silk but I've always lusted after another dale ;)

Re:

i had a scalpel 800 - very light bike with the right build. I changed rear shock for one with propedal as i thought stock shock could be a bit wallowy under load.

You obviously need to check the frame carefully for cracks etc around where the carbon arms meet the alloy frame.

Can't say i was impressed by the headshok - damping seems lacking - bit of a let down compared to rest of frame. If you are looking at the green one on ebay paintwork looks pants.

Re:

I've had a stp400 and loved it, such a fast xc bike and the soft tail gives just enough to add grip on then rear when it gives bumpy, I ran rock shox SIDs on it (which I'm currently selling) they were a great match for the light weight frame.
