Hello!

I'm bidding on a LX front mech on eBay, but only now I've just noticed there is a sticker on it saying "8 speed compatibile" (before I saw it on my phone's screen, on the PC it looks a bit bigger...) - my bike is a 3x9 setup. Is the new derailleur going to be ok for me?

Please say "yes", as I had put quite high maximum bid...

The front mech has no idea how many speeds are on the back so in most cases, it will be ok to use.

A 9spd cassette takes up the same space as an 8spd cassette so chain line should be ok too.

The only issue with mixing front mechs is that some have more reach and the shifters themselves pull differing amounts of cable making indexing the front a bit of a pain.

my fat chance buckshaver has an almost full 9speed xt groupset and the odd part out is an 8speed xt front mech and it works fine.

It works the other way too. I just put on an XT "9" speed front mech on my all 8-speed drive train and it is shifting better than my old tired 8-speed front mech was.
