When I stripped back the frame I had to make a decision on a re-spray or not. Normally I wouldn't, but this time I decided to go ahead after discussing on the forum. The re-spray on the rear-triangle also helped make the decision.
Update time...Living in Amsterdam the one place everyone suggested for a respray was with Joris at BECA Bikespray. Its an impressive shop that costs a bit, but the results looked great and Joris could even do the classic DuPont Imron colours used by Brodie.
While I was getting the frame re-sprayed @raidan73 put me in touch with @Si_33 who agreed to sell me an original Brodie ICR stem. I dropped this into Joris for a respray too. Joris was making good progress on the Brodie doing a thorough rust removal and prime. A lot of fancy carbon here too...
Joris did a great job and I was delighted with the finish...but he did disassemble the Gatorblade to spray the legs which I had asked him not to do - knowing they were not meant to be taken apart. Something got lost in translation, but more on this later.
@raidan73 was kind enough to put me in touch with Paul Brodie so I could ask after the assembly specifications for the Gatorblade. Paul was quick to reply and really helpful. Simple solution even my engineering skills can deal with was:
Put blue Loctite on the threads, and tighten the allen screws to 30 ft/lbs of torque. That's it. It's good to then check the alignment, but they should be pretty close.
