I'm currently converting a 1980's Raleigh into a single speed bike but what I would like to know is if I could fit 700c wheels onto my bike its a 50cm frame? let me know if you need any more info I'm new to this
The 700cs are smaller than the 27" it doubtless had originally. If you are lucky you'll find that the brakes have enough drop to reach the rims...if not, then you'll need deep drop callipers. BMX ones work well, try Alhonga or Diacompe Big Dog.
The difference in brake drop between 27" and 700c is only 4mm. I've done the conversion several times and never yet have I had problems achieving the necessary drop.
Yep, just to second that, you can swap 27's to 700C. I tried them for fit on mine and you just need to drop the brake blocks down a bit. Unless you've got ultra short brakes it isn't going to be a problem.
