7 days- Not Craig David Content!

Dr S

Old School Grand Master
... we were making love by wednesday, and on thursday friday an satuuurdayyyy!

No its not a Craig David Schmaltzy load of pap- this is my latest hair- brained plan.

Project X ;)

Its the Dalby meet on Saturday and last weekend it dawned on me that I don't have a functioning Retro Ride. The 'Dale needs headset bearings. PACE has no cable guides and therefore no rear brakes, also one of the bolts in the crown won't tighten. The Ibis is lost in the post somewhere, Saracen has no stem and rear mech (also in the post from foreign lands)

All I have running is my modern Yeti- not exactly retro is it?

So what to do??

I have never owned a Titanium framed bike. this was going to be next years project. But. Seeing as I had nothing for the weekend and that a pair of Hei hei had turned up in the for sale section, fueled by a bottle of Robolo, I thought it might be a good idea to bring the project forward and bought one :?
When I woke up the next morning I realised that apart from some bars and a set of brakes I have nothing what so ever to build it up with.

So now I have less than a week start to finish to get all the parts together and build it up. Has it ever been done before?? i know I put my fate in the hands of postie and co but i think it can be done.

So the reason for this thread is to try and find the bits I need and to keep you entertained as my hair falls out and panic sets in as the week unfolds. At the end of the week you will hopefully see a fully functioning bike or a broken man.... entertainment indeed!

So to get the ball rolling has anyone got a good XTR/XT 9 speed rear trigger shifter?

Cheers

This could be a toughie, anything I build new or modern always ends up with one vital unique part missing, like the brake bolt for my Cannondale super6,which makes the build run way over expectation(2 months in the case of the dale!).GOOD LUCK :D

It is proving tough alright! Yesterday was planning day and I bought a few parts but today has been really tough- more parts now sorted but will be owing several people HUGE favours! A big big thanks to Doogie who went out of his way to post out a set of wheels yesterday which arrived this morning and look very nice!
I pick up the frame and rear mech in the morning and there should be tyres and tubes arriving from CRC around lunch time.
Should have a mountain of parts assembled by Thursday afternoon- will post some pics tomorrow of what I have so far. Should have a spec sorted in the morning too.
Just one last thing- does anyone know what size seatpost a Hei takes? is it 27.2?
Cheers

Hei Hei seat post is a 27.0 to make it a little harder...

Cass

Oh shit- thought it was 27.2 and planned on robbing the post and saddle from the Yeti for the weekend. Does anyone have nice silver seatpost in this size- pref something light or in Ti?

Cheers
Si

My '95 was 27.0 - I have something crap and silver 27.0 you can have Gratis if you wish.

All the Kona ti bikes are 27.0 except for the Score which is 30.0. I have a Thomson 27.0 in silver, but it's new, not crap and would never get to you in time. You may have to bite the bullet and use CRC again :?

Looking forward to following this thread! :D

Edit: Oh see there's a freebie above me ;)

Cheers for the offers guys. I have a campag one in 26.8 that I might try with a little shimming. idealy looking for something in Ti for it so don't want to buy anything just for the weekend only to have to sell on.
Setting off to collect the frame in ten minutes- exciting!

This mornings big thanks go to Tenbikes and Cass for going out of their way to send parts- hopefully MrPostman can get through the snow to keep things on track.

Will update soon!
