I have a stubborn self extractor bolt on a set of cranks that I can’t undo with a standard two pin park tool. It has the usual six equidistant holes in it. Is there a six pin tool? If there is I’m struggling to find one…

Help please!

Have you tried putting the blighters in the freezer overnight and trying the 2 pin tool? Problem is finding something strong enough to deal with the torque.

I tend to use circlip pliers as they allow better grip than a dedicated 2 pin spanner and you can get more leverage and grip.
As a rule the 2pin circlip tool is almost never adequate to remove a bicycle part that been exposed to moisture and dirt
The pliers are about 10x better👍
You could use 2 pairs simultaneously...or 3 with a friend.

I would guess if the self extractor is siezed in the crank, then the crank is still on the bike, so you'll need quite a large freezer!
Plumbers freezing spray could do it, although my own experiences with it have always been disappointing.

As said, a home made tool is quite easy - so long as you have a drill and a way of cutting metal (hacksaw/angle grinder).

Rather than freeze, I'd go the other way and gently HEAT the crank arm with a blowtorch or heat gun - you're NOT trying to heat the extractor, just the crank arm. Aluminium has a surprising rate of expansion, so you won't need to get it as hot as you expect. That's after DAYS of allowing it to soak in Plusgas.

Soak in plusgas, make tool & then heat.

:)

It’s swimming in plusgas at the moment

Not too keen on hearing the cranks as they are quite nice…

This one might take a while, and I suspect I’ll muller it getting it out
