$45,000 only buys you 6lbs of carbon .....

I picked the bike up at Interbike last year. It's amazing how light the whole bike is. If someone were to hand you the bike with your eyes closed you would never realize it's a complete bike. Amazing stuff.

Not enough fibreglass?

;)

Seriously, it is just an exhibition piece, but is this the future?

I can see the appeal if they can make mountain bikes with full suspension as strong as today's that weigh in at five kilos. Especially if they are collapsible, intentionally!

The owner rode it 20,000 kilometers. Is that an exhibition piece?

I have no idea how it was built up previously, when it covered all those miles. As it stand it is an exhibition bike. None the less I am impressed. :)

CF bikes are the future. Fact.

I'm lucky enough to have a very good friend who designs bikes for a living... he's very, very knowledgeable about CF technology and talking to him was a key factor in me deciding to buy (modern) CF bikes over the past couple of years.

The bike in the OP is clearly an exercise in weight loss, but its not as far removed from reality as many might think.

Fairwheel bikes did a write up and said it was very similar when he rode it. It weighed 6-7 ounces more.

Cool. That is pretty special then. Not very practical as a day to day bike. Imagine leaving it outside the store, and then remembering how much it cost! :)
