Put rims, hubs into LBC to be built.LBC supply the spokes.
This monday it will 3 weeks for the job to be done.
Still have no wheels as yet.
There reason for the delay is getting the spokes(dt revolution).
When i last spoke to the shop (wed) spokes where on there way from Belgium.
Is three weeks normal?
Wanted the wheels for Bank holliday weekend too put some of the bike together.
Do not think i will be going back to this particular shop any time soon.
Regards John.

There's a lesson there.

Buy the spokes yourself and build them / lace them yourself. If you need that final push to 11, you could always get you LBS to true them up, if you're not confident.

Much of my interest in doing as much for myself with bikes over the years was part irritation at the service of some LBSs, part not wanting to be dependent on them for what I could in terms of maintenance.

Find a decent LBS? Mine are fab. Dunno if £37 to supply spokes and build one wheel is any good or not, but they did a cracking job.

Same here. Spot on.

I waited for 3 months for spare parts for my Manitou forks from my LBS, they kept saying the distributor had no stock, eventually I phoned the distributor who said they had loads in stock and had had for months previously, it was something they couldn't get rid of apparently. Since then I've given up on them (after another 3 month wait for a jacket) and only muse mail order or Evans or NWMTB.

If the distributor is out of spokes - as a shop, there's not a lot to do about it.

Delivery time between EU countries is usually a week or more.

I have two local shops + a Halfords/Edinburgh Coop.

1. Everybody knows what Halfords are like.
2. Edinburgh Coop seams a better place for service, but still expensive.

3. Two local shops, i went in one asking about a proper tool to remove BB30 bearings from my bike and they told me they dont have one, and all the bikes they do, they just put a bar on the bearings and twat them out to remove  the shop is a mess every time i have been in, it does not inspire confidence. The other shop i called into a few weeks back, much tidier shop, i was impressed with the neatness, had a bit of a chat with the owner as i was after some BMX inner tubes for a ghetto tubeless setup, bloke seamed sound! but charged me £10 for 2 x 20" innertubes (edinburgh were £4 each and i thought that was pricey)

To be honest, i spend most of my cash online now, usually just go straight to eBay, check the buy it now prices (price+p&p/lowest) and save myself the petrol money for driving to a shop.

£2.20 delivered from the bay @ the moment.

If the rest of them are anything like the one I used to go to in Worcester, or the one I go to now in Cardiff (Penarth Road), then I'm guessing that the answer would be pretty good.

Don't generalise Halfords.. They're not all bad you know ;)

And no, I don't work for them!
