2x? What to do with shifter?

I've built up a frankensteins monster commuter and because of what was decent in the soares bin (and its intended purpose) I'm running it as a 2x9 (middle and big chain ring)

Is there a way I can 'delete' for the want of a better term, the bottom or top position on the shifter (deore m510 I think) so I don't launch the chain under or over if my finger gets giddy?

With correctly set limit screws you should get this to work

Set the inner ring as the middle click of the shifter so the outer ring is the last click of the shifter

Then no worries about over shifting

Yup, what Andy said.

Cannondale use to do this back in the late 90s, my F3000 had a double up front with a triple shifter, no need to “delete” a shift.

buy later shifters, look for ones which have a switch between 2/3

I've been running an SLX with an early LX top pull bottom swing front mech without issue

plus the later shifters allow for push or pull on the downshift lever which makes for better positioning if you have absurdly long thumbs (or 'murderers thumbs!' as my drawing tutor said)
