I've got a Specialized Purgatory up front and The Captain out back. Very happy with them and they're priced well at £30.

Thank you mister ,

I was starting to think I was the only one here with a big wheel bike !

Hi Mike,

you are not alone

That Spesh combo is def. worth trying, from what I have heard.

You can also take a look on the Maxxis range. Ikon on the front and Aspen at the rear. Was riding that on tarmac, gravel roads and trails and felt comfy and secure on all paths.

Currently I have Vredestein's Black Panther on the Niner (X-trac front and reg. Black Panther at the rear). Thats perfect for me and the terrain I ride. If you need more traction yon can go for the X-treme for the front and X-trac for the rear.

Have fun with that 29er

Martin :)

Personally I've been pretty impressed with WTB Exiwolf as cheap all-rounders on my Surly. What does the new bike come supplied with (or are you building up a frame)?

Re:

I run Rocket Ron front Racing Ralph rear. Works very well on mixed dry / damp / muddy trails for me. They are very light. I run mine tubeless, and the tyres are the newer 'snakeskin' ones meant to stop shredded sidewalls.
Try going tubeless ;)
