Hi guys

My son is getting into riding the local BMX track and after a few visits it has made me want to hark back to my youth a ride it too! But being just shy of 6ft 4 the old 20" bikes would just be crazy. So I started looking at 24" BMX but still thinking they might be a bit on the small size.

Then one night whilst searching for Santa cruz 29ers I came across this offering from SE Racing who used to make the old PK Rippers BITD. There are 2 that have caught my eye a special 40th anniversary Santa Cruz "Big Ripper" and a Chrome one. Has anyone ridden one or have any opinions on which I should go for!

Cheers

Doug

I follow SE Racing on Instagram and you'd probably be hard pressed to get one of those Santa Cruz ones now as they were quite limited. You get a free skateboard with it too.

Re:

If you check the archive on the SE website, they have done all sorts of re-imagined retro bikes in the last few years: a 26-inch PK Ripper, 24 and 29-inch Qauadangles, etc. I haven't ridden the 29 Ripper, but for actual riding around (as opposed to racing), a 29 will be more practical than a 24 cruiser.
A few thoughts: There's no front brake (perfect for a real BMX; not so great for a street cruiser); The fork doesn't have much offset; and the Santa Cruz paintjob makes my eyes bleed. But then I must be the only ancient skater who disliked Jim Philips' graphics back in the day. If you like the SC version, go for it: It's probably the one with potential to be collectable... just not my style.

Thanks for the thoughts...

There are a couple of places selling the Santa Cruz:

Its basically to pop to the shops on cycle paths, to ride the BMX track with my son (who will only be 5 in Dec) who loves going there. I have a SC 29er and used to ride SC skateboards in the late 80's. I guess I got a bit excited with the paint job! The chrome defo looks maybe classier? But the SC one is a bit more fun and my boy likes it best! lol

Re:

Now wondering if a 29" wheel BMX might make it more of a cruiser and harder to get some air on! Thinking maybe 24" would be better? Oh the indecision!

Re:

Please let me know when these radical air sessions are taking place....I need to see this
