Have you read the brief of mainly road and canal tow path terrain with the kids?

Hardly banking curves territory ;-)

With the smart Sam's you get the puncture protected ones for this purpose.

No tyre is better than the other in that respect, I get punctures in contis, schwalbes, charge, Tioga,..
Just good plain thorns, glass etc goes through them all.

I'm afraid I was a tad distracted by the cat's demands for snacks whilst typing and kinda missed the family element of the brief, ending up in shreddin' land – sorry folks. I kept the Smart Sams for wearing on softer ground conditions. The less gnarly Continental Race Kings (rigids at under £12 quid a tyre from Ribble) have been robust, last ages and will perform very well on tarmac, canal path or hard pack trail. Good for pottering with the family but equally good at cracking on a pace too. They're a little too edgy for damp tree roots though.

Schwalbe black jacks. Roll well and deal with most conditions. Puncture protection, or so they claim. Have used them for years in 1.9 width. 2.1 also available. Only complaint is I seem to tear the sidewalls on rocks. Under a tenner from crc.
