26" Tubeless Tyres. What are you using?

If you where not using snakeskin version, which I do with tubes. Then I have enough idea.

No problems on me old Kona with them. There are so many different tread patterns now though. Just pick the prettiest ;-). No doubt the ground wherever you are is not the same as where I ride.

In should mention I'm still happily finding grip and enjoying this 3" thick gloopy and slippery mud on charge splashbacks. Nobby Nics are just overkill for me ;-)

Surely you have that the wrong way round? UST is so heavy and offers virtually no improvement in puncture resistance (not without goop anyway) or traction thanks to the tyre weight and stiffness, that you might as well use a conventional rim, tube and tyre and save some weight.

Or do it properly. With an alternative engineered solution, that works well. (FWIW the worst combination for seating I've ever had were some Mavic UST rims and Hutchinson UST tyres. Actually put me off tubeless for several years)
 
And in answer to the ops question, we are mostly using schwalbe.
Nobby Nic, Racing Ralph, Hans Dampf. Depending on bike, use and season. Snakeskins for the most part, and what ever compound is sensible and cheap! (German retailers win on this one)
Never bothered with TLR but sometimes they've just turned up, but I have a cheap compressor, so never struggled to seat anything. (Except the UST Mavic/Hutchinson combination)
Rims are mostly stans, with the odd mavic/stans rim strip thrown in for good measure.

Specialised Ground control on Kona , and Ground Control on back of Soul with Purgatory up front , used GC's tubeless for 2/1/2 or 3 years and love em , don't buy the Sworks ones though as the sidewalls are superlight and start to fall apart after 6 months at 25psi. Both bikes run tubeless btw
 
I'm about to try tubeless with some Bontrager XR4 Team Issue on Stan's Rims. I'll let you know if I end up eating my bike out of frustration.

er, what does UST stand for? :oops: It's obviously some tubeless phrase, I know, I'm a dumbass :roll:

I'm actually running those S-Works tyres with tubes as I don't have any tubeless rims.

Universal Systeme Tubeless, it's a Mavic design that uses heavier side walls of a specific shape that lock in to the rim. It means you don't have to use any latex gloop in the tyres.

When I did my 29'er, with Stans Crest rims, I followed Stans instructions to the letter and it all went easily and smoothly.

My son has his own way of doing..... everything, and seems to spend an awful lot of time swearing, pumping and dripping latex gloop all over my drive and the floor in my garage.

I'll check out the Specialised Ground Controls, as I have heard good things about them elsewhere.

EDIT to correct spelling, curse my ancient brian....bain....bran...... mind.
 
Latex, lexan doesn't tend to seal punctures very well....... and if you want to benefit properly from tubeless, you do need goop in USTs, or the first sizeable thorn will leave you with a flat tyre.

I'm using Geax summat TNTs on the Dekerf. Felt a bit slippy on wet roots to begin with but keep the pressure down to 20psi and they're great ! Quick too!
