I’m fed up beating the s**t out of my road bike  My tyres are slashed, my rims scored, my drivetrain is filthy. Damn you winter!

So... I’ve just ordered a set of 35c slicks for my CX bike :D yes it is lardy, slow and not great for road riding but I like the idea of discs and high volume tyres. At 1/3rd the price of the road bike, it’ll be a sacrificial lamb until spring.

The roads are shocking in Surrey and some tool has been stealing drain covers along my training route! Surrey CC told me 13 covers had gone this week alone!

Ride careful people.

For a county where the car is so proudly king, I’m utterly amazed at how badly the roads are kept. This winter has really taken its toll on them though, even though the weather hasn’t been that bad.

I’ve done the last couple of days on a rigid frame mountain bike with 56mm tyres. It’s hard work compared to my daily which has 20c tyres and fixed gear, but it really soaks up the bumps in comparison. I also don’t have to spend any time constantly scanning ahead for what I’ll need to avoid. Just ride over everything : D

Not much change here in cameland on smoothish pot hole free roads.. just have to watch for sand on the roads as it’s like riding on marbles where you could loose it on a corner....
