For Sale 21 IN ROBERTS FRAME, FORK, SEATPOST CAMPAG HEADSET, MAVIC BB

Cotterpein

Dirt Disciple
Frame number is 8229.
The frame belonged to the time keeper of a local cycling club and was used for time trials. It is a quality lightweight steel, lugged frame with double butted tube, but I cannot guarantee what tubing it is made from. From the frame number i believe it to be a 1982 frame. Roberts used Reynolds and Columbus tubing at that time. The elegant lugs have heart shaped cut outs and the bottle cage mounts are diamond shaped which all indicate a quality build as you would expect from Roberts. The frame dropouts are Campagnolo.
The headset decal says 87 Penge Road Annerley, where Roberts built bikes between 1976 and 1983. This and the frame number support it being a 1982 build, probably a road model as there are no mudguard eyes.

The frame comes with an alloy seat post, I have loosened the clamp bolt and checked the bolt and post are free. A Mavic 610RD bottom bracket is fitted, I also checked the bottom bracket shell threads and found the shell is chamfered to accept the Mavic BB. The bottom bracket and headset bearings feel smooth, but would probably benefit from fresh grease.

There are some chips to the paint and age related marks, but the silver metallic paint is in good condition for its age. Please PM me if you have any questions. I don't claim to be an expert on this era of bikes, so if you have more information or corrections to what I have described please add a comment.

Price £295.

Absolutely lovely, glws

I expect you know very well how to measure a frame, but hope you don’t mind me asking, is it really 21”, the head tube looks like it would be more.

Thanks for your comment Vetus Ossa and I welcome your question as I appreciate it is essential to check measurements and verify the description. The centre of the crank axle to the top of the seat tube is 21 1/8 inch and almost 54cm. The top tube length is also 21inch centre to centre. The angle of the picture may make the head tube look longer. I have added pictures showing the measurements with a tape so you can see how I took the measurements. It also shows off the lovely sheen of the paint better.

Thanks for the pics. Head tube lengths can be very deceptive, I once owned a Hetchins and the head tube looked much like your's, it was a 58cm frame.

Lovely frame? Any idea what variety of Columbus? SL? Does the frame take AK or nutted brakes? BSA or Ita thread BB? Rear spacing…126mm or 130mm?
