2023 plans...

Thin the fleet, buy less, sell more, ride more. Once the fleet is thinned, and money from sales is in the bike fund. Maybe, just maybe I’ll buy one more nice frame. Have one more go at building a BOTM entry on a budget 😁.

Like a lot of people I got back into cycling when the covid insanity kicked off in early 2020, it was best thing that ever happened to me to be honest. I got furloughed on full pay that spring and summer so I had plenty of time on my hands, I cycled a lot, I found this site and got back into the bikes I rode and wanted as a kid.

When I was eventually made redundant it forced me to seek out an entirely new career as the catering industry at that time was completely dead, fortunately that worked out, my new job has much better hours, pays more and is located at an ideal bike commuting distance, about 4.5 miles from home, so I've been riding at least 5 days a week for nearly 2.5 years now, plus I regularly ride on my days off, I never felt better. To all of those who want to ride more then if you can commute do it, and be disciplined about it, rain or shine, don't be tempted by the car, it starts off hard but gets easier, after a few weeks you'll feel the difference.

This year I want to spend more time riding and tinkering.

My plans for 2023...
Finish converting the garage into a workshop.
Finish pending projects before I start anymore.
Sort through all my stuff and have a massive clear out, sell and karma whatever I don't need.
Go on a few bike tours around Britain, these are already planned.

2022 was very much a buying year so along with more riding, less buying and more selling as well. I have a half dozen or so "non-keepers" to rebuild and get ready to sell in the spring along with a bunch of parts I'll never use 👍, this will also allow access to the crawl space again 😆

2023 targets?

Support the missus in her new career direction
Support my kids in their next education steps
Finish the house
Thin the fleet
Tackle some urgent restoration on the Landrover

There was something else…

Oh yeah, ride

It’s already hard to sell. I’ve got some very good prices here(or so I think…..) but it seems the rb stock market has crashed and it’s SELL SELL SELL!

Plans for 2023 so far...

Get back on a bike.

Bike jumble more of the surplus!

Scottish tour in the camper with bikes
and dogs.

Visit Jeroen at his little museum in Holland, and leave with less than I arrive with!

Build my bike palace (have an adult help me)

Finish a couple of long term bike projects.

The Malverns with my brothers.

Switzerland retro bike adventure.

Vienna for Christmas, no bikes.

First step for me is recovery. Ruptured a thigh muscle months ago and still suffering so need that to go away. Picked up a nasty toe infection which hasn't helped and is taking far too long to sort (and costing far too much I could be spending on better things).

While the healing is going on, building a modern 29er which I've been picking at slowly. Now have rolling chassis, brakes fitted (bleed required), then gearing and cranks and that's done.

Sorting a bike for my eldest who has grown out of the heavily over specced hardrock I built him, looks like he may be inheriting s tidy but too small for me xt 11x1 equipped pinnacle oroko.

Then it's cull time. I've got far too many bikes and build parts that is sensible for one human.

Hopefully by then I'm physically able to ride, plan to commute to work, not far but taking a longer ride home to get back into riding again, and hopefully playing football too. I retired a decade ago, got back into it then injury struck. I miss it more than I thought and playing hell's with managing an U13 team that I got into a year ago.

Other than that, I want to be a better person, various negative and shitty things have changed me, and not for the better so I want to be me again.
