2017 Orange P7

Retrobike Rider
I’ve always been happy in my own little retro world, but it was time for a change, brought on mainly because I’m getting into the idea of multi day bike packing trips, and I wanted something a little more reliable and easier to fix if away from home.

So this is the bike, a 2017 Orange P7, RockShox Yari Fork, Hope Wheelset, plus a smattering of nice bits. Not sure about the Avid brakes, almost definitely going to upgrade to Hope soonish.

Riding it is a revelation. The 650b wheels do seem faster, the wide bars are a bit weird, but im sure I’ll get used to it. Also, I’m finding the 1 x12 gearing a little odd (my left hand is reaching for the gears still!) It still felt like when you're a kid and you ride your mates older brothers bike, everything just seems bigger, even though the frame fits me.

I’ve got a 2020 P7 and it is an absolute animal. Swallows up just about everything that is thrown at it. Not light by any means, as it weighs a ton. Night and day compared to my retro 98 P7

Cheers.

Yeah I took it out again yesterday and it was the weight of it I noticed the most, especially on the climbs. But then it felt solid going downhill, so, meh, swings and roundabouts I guess.

I'll get used to to I'm sure.

They use their own design. The cleat engages with a very loud and firm clunk, and the pedal seems to positively chuck you out when you disengage. Im a big fan of them already. The build quality is as you expect from Hope.

New Ergon saddle, Renthal bar, and grips. Hope bar end bling (innit bruv😎)

Also, does nobody know the seat post diameter please? The one fitted is unmarked sadly.
