Had a Fuel only out of the two but it was a fantastic ride and never had an issue with it. Only bought the frame used and built it up so cannot comment on part quality but the ride was great. I set it up with the pressure that Trek stated for my weight and then dropped it 10psi as I recall. Some of the 2008s had an issue with chain stays cracking but that was fixed the following year.

My brother had a 2008 and his chainstay snapped. It failed where the brake caliper mount was welded, I believe the weld created a stress riser. The issue was solved on later 2008 frames (and subsequent years) with a better weld that tapered out. My brother had a new rear triangle fitted under waranty, the shop fitted incorectly and the first ride runined the rest of frame, so in the end he was given a nice shiny 2011 EX9 frame. I've ridden his bike and it's fantastic, if you get one you won't be dissapointed. Not ridden an FSR though.
