2006 Zaskar Fail

Yep, the sticker says it all...they don't make em like they used to... anyone want it for freeeeeee?!
I wouldn't go that far, I saw plenty of frames fail catastrophically 'back in the day'. The only difference now is that you see things spread over the internet whereas before it was mentioned at the next club ride, or passed with a little word of mouth, but rarely escaped that circle. Even so, it's an impressive failure.

Oh ok...thats interesting, I've owned 6(i think) Zaskars from 91 to 96, and no cracks or worse and all felt solid whilst riding... I've had a couple of newish Zaskars and both have broken catastrophically. They are far lighter than the earlier ones but clearly not as strong?

Bb weld crack isquite common. it's spread here to (almost) split the frame.
Quite a few zaskar owners posting about broken frames online.

It's almost 20 years old - most quality alloy frames are designed to last 10.
By then the brand managers can usually wiggle out of a "lifetime guarantee"
😪

Alloy frames lasting only 10 years ?

my Handsome dog frame is 26 years old and so is my giant 830 atx commuter !

should i be worried that they could snap at any time ?

Many steel frames had a 10 year guarantee early 90s. The rise of aluminium brought a 2 year guarantee, but buyers started looking for more, so the guarantee period got longer.

As a rule, aluminum alloy frames don't have an endurance limit, so are slowly fatiguing over time, whereas it's (technically) possible for a non- corroded steel or titanium frame to last for ever in normal use.

You could still be a long way off failure, but it could happen tomorrow🤔
