2004 Kona Cinder Cone - Fork upgrade ? ?

Hi guys,

Following a 6 year hiatus I've recently been reunited with my 2004 Cinder Cone.

I'm looking to upgrade the forks on her, I still have the stock Marzocchi MZ Race forks but I've never been very impressed with them to be honest.

Does anyone have any fork recommendations that would suit (see photo below), I cant decide whether to go completely new or try to stick with something of that sort of era ?

Bike only used for light cross country at worst.

Any advice gratefully received.

A similar vintage Marzocchi MX Comp would be a perfect replacement. It always got brilliant reviews, would be period correct (if you're worried about that sort of stuff) and is virtually indestructible. There is usually a pair on Ebay, although not at the moment which is typical!

yeah Some Marzocchi MX Comp forks would probably be right at home on that frame, I had the Comp's ETA with lockout and was impressed with them.
Otherwise I'd probably look for a set of Rockshox Reba's.

I'm running Fox F100's on a 97 Lava Dome and they work well .Not period but I ride it .

I forgot to say I'm ideally after a pair of forks that have lock out, I dont think they do unless anyone knows otherwise ? oh and need disc mounts too

While we're on the subject of upgrades I'd like to fit some hydraulic disc breaks , the bike is currently running Shimano BR-M475 Mechanical Disc brakes with Avid FR-1 levers. I'd quite like to go hope but not had them before, could anyone recommend a decent set ?

If you don't mind a modern set of discs, the current Deores are amazing fir the money. I have a set on my Stanton and reckon they feel better than the XT's on my other bike....and for £80 a pair (excluding rotors).

Reba's. 100mm version should be on eBay for a ton. Brilliant fork with lockout

+1 for Reba's, got them on my 2004 caldera and they seem to suit the frame perfectly. The original Marzocchi exr fork never felt quite right to me
