2001 Manitou Millennium Fork - axle question

I recently bought a second hand Kona Stinky, which had a manitou millennnium fork fitted. Problem is......I cannot remove the axle to get the front wheel off!

Anyone got experience of these forks? (or the supernova from that year?)

how does the axle actually comes apart/out from the fork legs?)

I have removed all four pinch bolts, but the axle only spins in the fork housing. There is an 8mm hex bolt on one side. Presumably this need to be wound out of the axle itself, but i'm not 100% sure (as the 2001 Maniou manual for x-vert/supernova is quite crap)

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

You need to lightly do up the pinch bolts on the drive side so that the housing can't spin while you remove the axle. The axle just comes out as a whole unit.
