Got 2 speed chainset 38/24 t and want to go single 32t.

Just bought 32 t ring that has same bcd as 38 t, any reason why it wont work
or do i need to use/make spacers to make it sit more to the middle?

Or was i better off finding 32t to replace the 24t?

It should work. Can you mount it on the rear of the spider?

If your cranks are 2x-specific then you might need to space the chainring inboard as the chainline centre will be inbetween the two rings. If they're 3x that were just running chainrings in the inner and middle positions, then the middle ring position (on the inside of the spider) will be the correct chainline centre.

Yep, why im asking.

Dont think i dreamt it but im sure i saw chainrings that have a short spacer machined probably for this very reason..... or it it repkacing the female chainring bolt (like sold by superstarcomponents)

I guess it still will work but maybe chain wears a littke bit quicker due to the bad chainline.

I have a single ring on a triple crankset using single ring bolts and a slightly shorter bottom bracket spindle to move the drive side in a bit so I can run the chainring on the outside, where it looks better, and still get a good chain line. You will have to check that there's room for the crank arm not to hit the chain stay though, some crank/frame combinations are quite tight.

Crank has 2 ring spider so no middle ring position.

There is a singe ring spider available for £90 ..... so quite expensive.

Will try it out with the single ring when it turns up..... or one of these for £ 52, mmmmm shiny

... waiting for pay day until i can buy the direct mount chainring, meanwhile i modified 32t ring to fit on inside of the spider. Filed about 1mm off the 4 lugs, the shiny metal in photo, which should put the ring further in. The machining on the lugs is asymmetrical so probably not what cannondale had in mind.
