Hi mate, nice work, you say you are going to paint the front end black, just a suggestion but why don't you try hammerite spray paint? It's about a tenner a tin but has primer and lacquer already in it, it will probably be a bit more durable than your average rattle can also...

I was thinking of having it sprayed around the headtube by a guy I know who does car bodywork. The standard of finish I'm aiming for is quiet high and I'm not that good with rattle cans!! Thanks for the idea though. But if the guy I know can't or won't do it for any reason I might have to do it myself.

Kona-Ian yes this shock would fit. I got it off eBay. The size your after is 7.785" length x 2" stroke.

Getting the headtube sprayed next week. That's the last piece of the puzzle! Then I can rebuild it.
