Yes fettling is fun haha

here and ebay mostly something always comes up.

The xt gears are good so brakes would be a nice touch. maybe a xt chainset or raceface LP

Its provably the original chain so I should probably check it. Though it's been good for nearly a thousand kilometers the last hear.

It has pretty run of the mill Deore cranks that are fairly beat. Maybe that would be a nice upgrade too

If its got the original chain you can bet the rest of the drive has had it i had the same situation with my lava dome when i got it.
I risked it and hoped the rest would be ok but as soon as i replaced the chain it started slipping on the cassette and front middle ring where the old chain had stretched and worn into the cogs so bad.

I dont think it's been ridden a ton so should be good. Maybe best not to get into that just yet haha

I did find a set of M739 XT parallel pull vbrakes in good shape near me on a classified. So I should have those later this week. The levers and the brake assemblies. front and rear.

Sweet keep us updated

On second look they are M750 V brakes, which are a tough later than the bike. It appears they did work better though.

As far as I can tell the levers are M739. Black with silver pulls

Theyll be great with the kool stop pads i used to have a simular setup on my old kona

Okay great. Feel bad with the deore still working well but they can make their way onto something new. I have a 90s raleigh I am building up as well.

Re:

Had it out for a run with the new pads. Big difference. A lot better feel. Makes me wonder if I really need the XT system haha
