I'd suggest 2 inches below the lower weld on an older aluminium frameI'd recommend something long enough to give you the height needed to ride, and a fair bit inside the frame. Posts that are too short will result in the frame potentially getting damaged and could result in it breaking. Something long enough that once inserted, goes below the top tube lower weld at minimum.
