First of all, hi folks, stumbled across this forum a few backs when I was browsing the web due to getting an old bike I have back on the road. It's a 1997 GT Ricochet I and used it for my daily commute for a few years as well as local trails and scooting about on. I wanted to get it fixed up again as my son has a wee bike and I want to get out again on it with him when the better weather (if there is such a thing) arrives. Didn't even realise there would be much of an interest in older bikes until I seen the forums so mine barely makes it in being a '97 model but I thought I'd share with you folks if it interests you.
The forks aren't original as I bought it with rigid forks and purchased the Bombers a few years later (maybe around 2000 or so?) as I thought they'd go well with the bikes colour scheme. Still have the original forks in the garage though.
Gears were well gummed up and wouldn't shift properly so cleaned everything out and put new cables on as well as new brake pads and handle bar grips. The original grips had completely deteriorated and left my hands black and sticky anytime I used the bike. Gave her a good clean up and she's looking well again, just need to get some chain lube and I'll get out on her again.
