1997 Claud Butler Cape Wrath FINISHED

Re: 1997 Claud Butler Cape Wrath.. (a proper one this time)

This needs more of an assault with the rough towels....

Re: 1997 Claud Butler Cape Wrath.. (a proper one this time)

So, for the past couple of evenings I've been arseing about with graphics, what I thought was going to be a simple and painless task of course proved not to be the case.....

I had initially thought that I had most of this font sorted from my work on the Titanius, but of course even though these graphics are in the same style ('95, '96 & '97) they are just a little different and of course on different sized tubing... I did try stretching but there were too many differences... so out with the sellotape and fineline marker to make a trace from which to establish the fonts "rules".

The other set of decals I thought should be an easy swap were the '97 Rock Shox Indy XC's... but the ones on eBay have been drawn as a full wrap around rather than a rounded panel.. I know what ever I put on isn't the real thing, but I may as well try to do it right?
A couple of photos were duly dispatched to our Gil and with what he already had on file it was a matter of moments for him to put them right. So these are now in his catalogue if anyone wants them.

Thought I'd have a crack at the Mavic 221 rims and the Parallax STX hubs this afternoon...

Didn't want to worry the anodising or the printed stickers so first I reached for the "Bar Keepers Friend" good general purpose cleaner that can be gentle but also tough (depending on how hard you rub), applied with a toothbrush around the spoke nipples and where the spokes meet the hub, with a Scotch pad on the braking surfaces and a soft cloth everywhere else.... worked a treat

Thought I'd try on the Butterscotch Magics just to cheer Spud-U-Like up!

Such little faith..... :|

Cream forks... yellow details on the saddle & rims.... it will work, just you wait & see...

I think you should donate them to a more accomplished builder of nightmares.

What yah building an Albino Claud?

Or the bike version of Macaroni & Cheese served with potatoes and cauliflower

Or the perfect antidote to THMs dog dinners -

Promise me something - don’t top it off with a brown saddle

Jokes a side - looking forward to seeing it come together

Cheers Spud...

As for saddles, catalogue correct for this one... (see photo)

As for tyres, I’d have preferred to have gone for the Psycho TT rear and edge front that d8mok sold for £30 🤦 There’s a pair of NOS edges on eBay for £140! that’s not happening!

As Spud has drawn my attention to the saddle, I thought I'd check it over to see what's what & see if it could be improved...

I've got 4 Selle Bassano Vuelta Vision CB embroidered saddles, none of which are mint, but a combo of all four should get me close...

No1 has the best top seat surface with no scratches and with clean upholstery, this also has the least clamp rash on the rails..

No2 had the best rear plastic cover with the Bassano logo un molested..

No3 had the best front plastic cover with no scuffs

No4 looks like it should be scrapped (and will be) but I did notice all 4 saddles had 3 slightly corroded screws and one good screw (hidden in the deepest recess... so this saddle along with 2 & 3 did have a part to play, that of donating one clean little black screw...

A proper clean of all the bits and a touch up of the rails with some black Humbrol (which will be cut back & polished once properly hard) and I think it's about as good as its gonna get....
