1996 Saracen Kili, FINISHED + 1st PROPER ride !

Re: 1996 Saracen Kili, nearly done, 28th October

I'm not a fan of the looks of Avid levers tbh Mike butas longas your happy with them then that's all that matters and how the hell did you manage to break Sram power link   .

As for the front Xt derailleur i think it looks pretty good especially with that chainset  ..

So i'm looking forward to your next update after you've got the cables all fitted ..

Re:

Happy weekend folks! Final installment from this bita Britishnisss !

I didn't like the crappy lacquer on the front mech,

So off it came again, polished up and refitted.

Doesn't look it there, but it came up really well. Having seen the photo, I have noticed the rubber from the inside of the clamp needs glueing back on

The it was just a matter of cabling up, and putting the chain and bar tape on. All that's left to do now is put some heli tape where the cables rub on the headtube and on the r/h chainstay and top tube where the bars could hit it.
Have to say, I really like the way it's turned out, looks nice and racey! Hope it rides as well!

I will do a final , first ride impressions post at some point

Hope you like it ;)

Re: 1996 Saracen Kili, FINISHED ! !

Wow ! is it me or does that saddle look 10ft high  and i disagree about your comment regards the picture showing a lack of shine on the clamp of the front derailleur after you'd cleaned all the old lacquer off as i can see plenty of reflections in it ;) .

I also have noticed you've picked my new fav colour choice of cable casing ;) and those bars look super narrow  but really do compliment the overall look of a rather wkd looking bike and last but not least that bar tape fits in rather nicely  so i look forward to reading the positive feed back after your bikes mayden voyage ;) ..

Ian....

Re:

If it rides as well as it did in its previous, rather different, incarnation, then I think you will be happy! And it looks absolutely spot-on!

Nice job on the build.

Re:

Thanks for your comments folks ;)

Thanks Ian, the bars are 560mm I think. The saddle would be higher still, if it wasn't for the 180mm cranks. All my bikes have a similar riding position. Look at the ones in my sig. I took the mech to work on Friday, and cleaned/polished it up when I got time to during the day. Cruise control on my lorry helped!

Cheers Dave and Longun, looking forward to trying it out. Maybe tomorrow if I get the chance

My bars on my Raleigh are 545mm wide and they look wider than yours do unless you've covered a slightly wider area with the bar tape than would normally be covered by the grips which would push the controls further inboard giving the impression that the bars are shorter then they actually are :| .

Those cranks are a lot longer than they look  and tbh i didn't realise that any one made them at 180mm and i was only aware of the 170-175mm length crank arms  so how blooming tall are you then Mike ? and i will pretend i didn't read that bit about polishing with the CC on  ..

Ian ..

Re:

I'm 6'4 Ian, and I also have 180 XT M730s on one of my Scotts, along with 180 Ritchey Logic. They will be going on my new project!
The bars are 565 actually. and the blue part of the grips is only 90mm. I just checked as the bike is in the kitchen, ready for action
