1996 or 1997 Cove hardtail....

Hmmmm Interesting... Not very familiar with this brand.

A friend recently gave me an interesting XC race bike. A Cove (Vancouver based builder, still exists) hardtail, looks like about 18" frame, tricked out with XT/XTR mix, Avid SD 1.9 levers, Red RaceFace forged cranks (broken non-drive side, gonna have to source a replacement), and lots of other red Raceface stuff, and Bomber Z2 Disk fork (set up with XT V's). Clear coated natural alu. frame. 24# all-up.

Looks to have had relatively little use - no worn-thru anno even on the cranks. A heel scuff on one chainstay...

Photos some time soon....

To Do: refurb the forks, replace the ND crank, see how she rides....

Never seen a Cove before.... Beautiful thing, really....

Coves are/were cool...although their model names were a bit juvenile (stiffee, handjob, peeler, g-spot, STD, hooker, etc).

Assume yours is a Stiffee?

I have no idea what model it is, the only decal on the machine is the head badge (scull/crossbones/D-C). It's an aluminum hard tail with moderately oversized tubing, a machined headtube, machined dropouts - Quite pretty in its way... The only other mark on it is a serial #, perhaps 5 digits, no letters. Haven't had a chance to photograph it yet...

Yup, deep southern NB.

Heh. It's the first one to actually come my way like this.... Was given to a local bike share program (which fixes'em up for low income families), but with this bike's issues (cracked crank, fork in need of maintenance), it's not well suited to the program. It found a better home, with hope for its future.

My 10yo daughter is a budding XCO racer, in love with the sport. She finished #1 in U11 girls this past weekend, her 3rd race ever, on a 33# Norco Katmandu. This may become her next whip....

Right. So, some photos (shot at night, in fog, on my back deck... Not the best, but not bad...)

As received, haven't done anything but look at it yet. Pretty damned clean TBH.

















Any thoughts on precise model/year would be appreciated. Same with thoughts on a replacement ND crank.

It seems those crank were a dime-a-dozen ... as I see them come up on the local Craigs list from time to time. Maybe just keep your eyes peeled and the right package will come available for your needs ...

I bet if you speak to Rob at Outdoor Elements in Sussex he could probably shed some light on that bike, my expectation is that it was once owned by him or he'll know which one of the guys from NB who all worked at Cove in the 90's it likely was.
