1996 Marin Indian Fire Trail

Hi all.

My first post on here as I am just about to buy, and re-live my youth by potentially purchasing a Marin.

A quick question. I am 5'10" with a 30" leg. When I had my Marin years ago I am sure it had a 19" frame, but I cannot remember.

This Marin I may buy has a 19" frame and I am wondering whether that is the right size as geometry now is completely different.

I have looked on the net but cannot find an old size guide.

Any help appreciated

Im 5'10"with a 30 1/2" inside leg (the 1/2" is important, it means i can't buy jeans the right bloomin length). I rode a 17 1/2" Eldridge Grade for many years before swapping for a 16 1/2" Pace. Both sizes good, think the 19"Marin will be too big.

Welcome Shari, your Marin idea sounds great, I would echo the comments above, with a 30 1/2 inside leg 17 or 18 inch will be a better fit for you. Good luck with the search and keep us posted

Ok, been out to the shed and measured the frame of the Marin.

From the centre of the crank to the centre of the top tube is 17.5". From the centre of the crank to the top of frame where the seat tube goes in is 19". Which measurement is correct?

Marin measured to the stars and stripes flag(centre of) on the driveside of the top tube.

So -called 17.5" with marins is what most other manufacturers call 18". Anything above the seat tube doesn't really count for frame size, more frame design/aesthetic.

Saying that, 17.5" marins from '91 onwards do seem big as you get a lengthy headtube and the overall appearance of the bike look right/proportional.

For comfort on retro bikes most people are safer with correct size or next size up. the 'arse in the air' geometry of some retro bikes can be a liability with any down hill action.

So, you have a 17.5" frame then. have a go on it and see how it rides and how you feel over a good distance(no back ache etc..)

Ok guys.

My daughter won't let the Palisades go! Don't blame her.

I have found a Kona "the king" in an 18 inch frame. Would that be ok.
