End result looks great - must make up for the hassle you went through with the powder coaters!
You could consider these grips if you like the lock-on style (shorter 90mm for Gripshift)?

Thank you and yes it does make up for the initial hassle. To be honest, just good communication from them would have been enough. Now the bike is almost complete, you don't notice the slight imperfections in the coating.

The grips are nice, but I do prefer the white. I'm going to pick up a standard pair of white ones today and cut them down.

What saddle is that?

Looking good. I like the look of the white grips against the white ring on the shifters :)
Yes the shifters do look nice with the grips, thankfully!

The saddle is a Nuke Proof Plasma. I spent hours trying to decide on one that complimented the build and I think this works great. I'm not sure how robust or comfortable it is though.

That looks about 5 minutes old, just wheeled out of the shop.

Awesome
Thank you. The problem with it looking brand new is that I won't want to ride it when it's complete!

just read through this and im loving how it looks! good work mate i love lava domes
oh and good luck with white grips, if you like to keep your bike super clean youll be stressed out after a ride down the road with those

Thanks guys. I was going to fit the cables yesterday and then realised I didn't have anything sharp enough to cut the outer sleeves. So a trip to the LBS today and I now have a rather smart Park Tools cable cutter. Close as dammit to £40 though, which in my book is quite a rip off!

buy cheap, buy twice though (at least) my Park multi-allen keys have had ridiculous amount of use and are still sharp-edged ;) what's the cable choice to be then?

Looking good so far. In terms of powder-coating; you'll often if not always get a slight 'orange peel' effect on powder-coated frames. The guy I've used is very good and is a former mountain biker himself. I've had about ten or so frames done for myself and others and he always masks the threads and bosses etc. as a matter of course. In fact I've never had to ask him to.
He is also very reasonable price wise.

Anyway, I'm sure the extra effort will be worth it in the end. The Curve levers are also a good choice and if it were me I'd stick with the P2's and go for STX-RC for the shifters and mechs. Reliable, functional and a very reasonable.

makes me realise how lucky we've been Paul!

That will most likely be the best step.

Trying to keep white grips clean is a bloody nightmare, they already have a hint of muck and I wash my hands before touching them! I may have to keep these just for show. ;)

stick em thru the wash with your cool temparature delicates / lycra = *gleam*

Cable choice was simple XT, although I used the brake cables on my Trek last night. Maybe at a later date I'll pick up some of those new fangled shiny metal shrouded types.

Thanks for the laundry tips!
