1996 Kona Hot

Cheers guys :D

al-onestare, I know what you mean, a Kona always looks better with p2's, but as this is a special frame I wanted something a bit more exotic, hence the Black Sheep.

BobCatMax, I've still got the p2's, they're back in the spares pile, i.e. the loft, but they were off a smaller frame so the steerer was always about 15mm short.

I agree. It's nice to see a change of pace rather than the, dare I say, "cookie cutter" builds of P2's and XTR M95x. Black Sheep does wonderful work with Ti and that frame is certainly worthy. Maybe throw on a (slightly shorter) Black Sheep stem to tie the front end together? BS handlebars too? None the less, it's a great build you have there.

ahhh i see the hot you told me about way back Iveto, sooo jealous, i like the forks, still very much in keeping but a bit sexier and sleeker i reckon, they are sort of like p2s sexy younger sister, not the kind you like to marry but great to ride ;)

lovely bike

A couple of recent-ish pics. I have a shorter stem waiting to go on. I'm toying with the idea of changing the wheels to m950/grey 517s, and the USE ti seatpost to a Moots instead.

I still have this. It's the frame that I'd bought and was researching when I discovered retrobike. All the pics have disappeared but I'll re-add a few here to show the various guises it went through before reaching it's current build.

The P2 forks you mention were actually on your bike. Can't remember who i sold them to though.

Why did you sell them?

On the subject of UK Stars and Bars Hot's, Mousemat has actually had two (one being the subject of this thread). Does he still own his 1997?

Here's a Ku, too:

Double phwoar!

By the way, what's the SN for your 96? It'd be interesting to place it in the timeline as I'm guessing it was one of the last before it shifted to Altitude.

Apologies Al if this complicates things here, but if I'm keeping up with this thread, I think the serial number for the '96 that you refer to could be HT 123.

I have on record HT 121 as a 19" S 'n' B with pre-scocketed type Dropouts owned by iveto1983 who started this thread.
Then I have HT 123 as a 19" S 'n' B with pre-socketed type Dropouts owned at various times in history by SpearedHot / Haggis / Wadsy / Tallpaul, but possibly not in that order.

It would appear that you and I share similar tastes in frames!

Long before I bought mine, I actually tried to buy yours from its original owner. He had listed it on eBay with a set of Rock Shox Judy's that were customed painted to match. He claimed to have raced as a Kona sponsored rider and bought this direct from them, I have some photo's on my Macbook at home which I can send you if you like?

Here's mine, these are the only two 'Stars & Bars' Hot's I'm aware of in the UK, but I have seen photo's of a couple more from the US. I've no idea how many were actually sold in this colourway. I've seen a Kona cruiser-type frame painted this way, and once saw a set of P2's painted to match, but they never resurfaced after they were sold :(

Didn't know there were only 2 of these in the country Paul or else i wouldn't have sold it to you ;)

The P2 forks you mention were actually on your bike. Can't remember who i sold them to though.

Both stunning machines and yours is number HT123 so was made not long after Mr Ivetos'
Here is a link to that one back in 2008:
