1996 Kona Hahanna

3D printed this little "adapter" to be able to mount my Orion Moon light to my rack rather than my seattube. Looks a bit odd but does the job! Now running a Tubus Cargo Classic instead of the old silver Topeak rack I had. I've bought this rack for an upcoming dirt touring bike I'm building but figured I'd put it on my commuter for now. It's much nicer than the old one!

Spent a couple hours yesterday evening on the Hahanna. The rear fender broke and I made a warranty claim so I since i had to take those off I thought I'd give it a clean, swap the brake pads and do some other bits. The frame is getting pretty beat as the kilometers stack up, lots of peeling paint, rust patches and evidence of poor cable routing.

When I first got this bike I was keen to keep the paint in good nick but I've slowly realized how difficult that is, especially without any proper experience. I've got no idea how to remove any of the rust without also taking away paint and repainting is even further beyond my skills and resources. Wondering if a ratty look would suit eventually!

Since I took a lot of photos I'll follow this up with a couple more posts.

I finally got the right BB tool after buying 2 incorrect ones and got to take the BB off. Seems like it's been changed within this bikes lifetime since after a wipe of the shell it was pretty much perfect! I got these XT crankset for free and I thought I'd try them out. They only have 2 less teeth on the two smaller cogs than the crankset before it had and I was curious to know what that feels like. They're pretty battered with some semi-broken teeth and don't really suit the bike at all. This bike is already a mishmash of many things, Acera X front deraileur, STX rear deraileur, cheapo STI shifters and now XT crankset! The crank bolt also looks hilariously bad.

Next up was the headset. It had never really felt that bad but since I'd never had a look at it myself, again due to unsuitable tools, I thought I'd crack it open. Seemed ok so I cleaned it up and packed it with fresh grease. Don't mind my bars just hanging like that. :)

The saddle is has also changed recently, I'm testing out a brooks C17. As I've gotten fitter and enjoyed riding this more, I want to extend the stem out a bit. Considering getting something ~20mm longer with no rise. IMG_8016.webp
