ive decided to give up on my gt rave. so if you want it come and get it (getting something in return would be nice but not a requirement).
you will recieve:
a 22 inch (or there abouts) 1996 gt rave frame and forks (theres more to this than meets the eye so read on)
wheels (no tyres)
bars and stem
front and rear mechs (shimano 300 i think)
down tube shifters
bottom bracket
chainset and l/h crank (threads on chainset are trollied, crank is good)
it would ride just fine with a chainset that you could actually put a pedal into and a seatpost and saddle (i have some old knackerd saddles if your desperate) but.......
the frame had a stuck seat post. now imagine if you will the seat clamp which is welded to the frame has a slot cut vertically down from the opening (where you would insert the seatpost down to the end cap) those that know what gt frames look like know they use a triple triangle design so the top tube actually passes through the seat tube and ends with about an inch of top tube behind the seat tube (google it if you dont understand). now the seat clamp split just below the clamping area through the twisting action of trying to remove the post. the split is approx half an inch but when you put a seat post in and do up the seat post bolt the split closes, speaking from an 'engineering' :D point of view as this is above the intersection of the top tube/seat tube point and above it there is a bolt clamping the frame and the post goes down further than the split i cant see it being a stressed area but a short session with a tig gun would resolve that in any case. now most of the seat post is out and you can inset a 27.2 post down 10.5cm. so in theory a cut down post should suit with no problems as i have measured 2 different posts from the limit mark and they come up at either 10 or 11 cm thats from the end of the post to the min insert mark so all you would have to do is cut a post down and leave a min of 10.5 cm to go into the frame. i can even supply the drill bit i used eventually to remove the majority of the post and it did a fine job but no to be honest ive kinda given up on the whole thing. the frame will need paint and if you could be inclined the small weld (i wouldnt bother but its up to you.)
do i want anything for it? not really but if you had any odd bits knocking around then thats up to you. first come first serve im not going to post it as i cant be arsed and its a big freebie and please if you do want it please dont just put it on ebay it would be nice for someone to actually use it.

Oooh, could be what I've had an eye out for.

Is it in Milton Keynes as your location suggests? That's not too far off.

Could get you a bottle of wine or something in return?

[Edit] Obviously I mainly lurk on here, if anyone who's a regular poster pipes up, I'm happy to step aside [/Edit]

yes it is in milton keynes, if the wine looks like carlsberg export then all the better. iwish has stated he wants it but cant collect and i really dont want to post this (i am having my gt avalanche collected by courier this week and its been a royal pain the the backside) but iwish has dibbed first so if he doesnt want it then second dibs gets it

pending collection, iwish has it. if he doesnt want it aidy has it. many thanks people for helping me cull my herd. i hope it goes to a good home :D
