I always have been a great admirer of Bart Brentjens and his win in the first XC race on the Olympic Games in Atlanta 1996. I have seen a lot of replica builds on here, but no one did a replica of the bike Bart won the first gold medal in mountainbiking. So this is a project I have been willing to do for a long time. Last year I started to collect some information about the bike.
From 1991 untill 1996 Bart raced for the American Eagle Mountainbike Team. For the first Olympic Games in 1996, American Eagle was the sponsor of the Dutch Team. All riders rode a Bilato made steel frame with Ritchey tubing (see http://www.mountainbike.nl/forum/viewto ... 4&t=109707). Bart didn't think this frame was competive enough for him, so he started to look for a different frame. American Eagle started a cooperation with Hercules, Concorde and Storck in those days and Bart went to Storck for a special frame for him. (http://www.storck-bicycle.de/en/web-anz ... 0&sub=1500). The frame Bart rode in the OS1996 was a Storck frame with American Eagle decals on it. Later this frame became the Storck Rebel frame.
It took me a long time to find the right frame for this replica build. It had to be the right one. I finally found the exact same frame. It was offered to me by a member of the Dutch MTB-forum. It has a crack in it, but it was free! Need to do some repairs, but I do have the frame.
A few months ago I contacted Bart Brentjens to ask him if he remembered the specifications of his bike. He still has the bike, hanging on the wall in his shed. He send me some (iphone) pics and a list of the specifications of the bike. It's now time to start collecting all the parts.
Here are some pics of Bart's bike.. If someone has more and better pics, please send them to me!!
