The parts aren't original, but that frame is a 1991 (or '92?). Great riding lugged mtbs!

Hi,

Not sure what you mean by the parts not being original? Can you please be specific to which parts aren't original & which parts are original?

I bought the mountain bike when it was 16 months old from our local bicycle dealer along with a spare fork during 1996 so would say the spare fork was the original part of the mountain bike & the suspension fork was added on.

Perhaps the numbers, shown in below photos will help identify which year the frame was new?

Pretty sure that is the 1992 Trek 970. Same frame as the 990, nice riding bikes. The color is "sour grape."

What parts aren't original? Lots!

It was specced with an integrated shifter/brake lever--looks like someone removed the shifter pods and put Gripshift.

It was specced with XT/DX mix, and yours has STX which was a later, and lower quality group.

The rigid fork is original, the sus fork is not. But the sus fork itself was probably put on pretty close to when the bike was new. You are just lucky they held onto the rigid fork

The seat isn't stock, etc etc. You get the idea. Great bike though, it is just that someone was riding it for a few years and replaced parts before you bought it.

i would say the forks arent original, also the rear mech and the grip shift, the rest looks about right and around 1992 perhaps?

I bought the gel seat to replace the old uncomfortable seat!

Many thanks for clarifying & interesting to see that these gripshifts aren't originals as they aren't popular nowadays. :?

Yep looks pretty similar to my Trek 950 from 91 / 92 which I paid £500 new out the shop, so doubt the 970 was double the price

i had one of these bitd and paid about £600 brand new from shop not £1000 !!! not seen one for a while but that is fairly tidy .
