1995 Scott Magnum Mk 2

Retro Newbie
I just picked up my new bike.

It needs some work, but overall it looks in pretty good nick.

The cable/shifter to the rear chainset doesn't seem to be working, and the front needs adjusting.

No rust, no cracks I can find, just needs a strip down, clean up and refit/replacement of parts.

I'll take it up to work tomorrow, and start stripping it down, then get some new parts ordered.....definitely a new handlebar.....will try and get an original.

Re:

Looks alright to me, what's with that stem and those bars though?

That's a nice looking bike, but agree it appears to have been setup for some Sunday rides to Church or something with those bars and the saddle. I bet it's longing to stretch its wheels.

I've done some searching, and it seems it originally came with the Scott AT-2 bars....seem to be cow horn style....I'll probably fit a Scott stem and try and get some bars to suit.....go back to the original look.

Re:

There were some Scott AT-2 and some Scott AT-4 bars in the "For Sale" forum recently, I know because I thought about getting them for my Scott MTB.
They're probably still available if you search for "Scott" in the For Sale forum.

For now I've fit a spare bar I had in the shed with a new stem. So far, I've fitted new handlebars, stem, gear shifters, cables, brake pads, saddle, and new inner tubes and tyres to fit tomorrow. Hopefully actually get to ride it soon :)

Not exactly original.....but at least its rideable now. I'll be swapping some original parts over bit by bit. Hopefully will be riding it to work Monday.....6 miles along the towpath....unfortunately a fair stretch uphill.....probably be the first time the gears have had a proper working. Fitted the new tyres today....seems the previous owner had it from new, and only used it to pop round the local shops and back....still had its original 19yr old tyres

That "fender" is hideous!

You should also adjust the brake levers. Turn them further down so your wist is straight when you reach for them.
The cables up front are waay too long. :D

The rest seems to be a fine bike! Have fun!
