I know it's not going to be everyone's cup of cha, but it's literally cost me next to nothing to put together.
The frame was picked up from the council tip, some parts very cheap from a friend who broke his modern carbon thing and split it, and the rest from my parts bin....apart from the tyres, seatpost and stem.

Total cost?

Have a guess!!

Wow....a shit load of views, but not even one comment! :D

It must have really annoyed the purists!

I could do a period correct build, using everything a minted chap in 1995 would have used, and it turn out like every other retro MTB......but I don't want to,bright now.
Instead, I've used a load of bits that I already had, and turned it into a fantastic bike, that is useable on a daily basis......

When I was a teenager, all I wanted was a Ti Marin or a Ti kona .....but I could afford either. Bearing in mind the frame was around £1500..... I was lucky if I took that home in 3 months of pay checks!

Now, 20 odd years later, I found a frame and built it to ride.....it's one of 16 complete bikes I have, so making it stand out, so it gets ridden is important.

I will probably end up building it period correct, and making it look like a 1995 mountain bike, but right now, it's a complete bastard of a build, but do you know what? It rides like the best bike you ever rode!!!

If anyone is over near Stansted airport, you are more than welcome to throw your lag over it, and have a spin!

looks fine to me, and if it gets you out riding it like you say, then thats a good thing :)

i used to live in the farm at the end of Stansted airport runway

No way!!
Was that the one that had the breakers yard in? Or in Burton end, near Ron with his rolls royce's?

ive been getting pop ups from 'postimage' spamming semi dodgy contact adds  not ideal on a family used computer :(

Wow!
Sorry about pop up stuff....I thought it was too good to be true

Since photobucket has gone the way of the pear, I've struggled to post pics on forums......I'm on an iPad, so I've never had pop ups.

Re:

looks ok to me, you don't have to spend 100's groats just to make it look nice, as long as you like the ride that's all that matters..

I just started using this for pics..

I tried imgur, but my old iPad struggles with it....I'm hoping to get a new iPad soon (when I can get my son to pay for his own mobile!)

I've got 15 other complete bikes, plus a few frames and a load of parts, but most are vintage road ....my other old Konas I've given to family members....I might have to nick back some of the XTR stuff though!
