1995 Kona Kula weird bottom bracket treading

The projection welded stuff is hideous, the push the tubing together and pump electricity through it until the join line melts...usually looking like pigeon droppings.

I hand't relaised that the tigged stuff was as bad.

Re:

I don't know much about welding. I was meaning the ones that look like arc welding, on my activator the weld doesn't even go all the way around!

Re:

Threads don't look great but I can't really tell what's going on from the pics.

Forcing a BB in the wrong way would take some doing but I've seen it before so it wouldn't surprise me. In my experience you would have had a hell of a difficult time getting it out if someone had done that.

The thread could have been cut in the wrong direction. I could see a mistake being made somewhere - maybe someone took the taps off the tapping/facing tool and put them back on the wrong sides (as in they were used having the left hand thread on the piloted side or vice versa). However, I can't really see a bike shop doing that without noticing. Having never run a tap through a BB the wrong way I don't know what would happen but I can't imagine it would be easy or leave shell in a very good state.

As others said, if it takes a BB I wouldn't worry too much. Put some Locktite retaining compound on it and keep an eye on it. The Italians and French used the wrong thread on the right side of their frames for years and it didn't bother them too much.
