1995 Diamondback Apex rebuild query

Yup, 94, thats when I had mine and it green as per your pic.

It was a great bike and it served me well. I then upgraded in the range to a Response Elite with LX and XT with Manitous up front

I thought the '94 ones were the nickel plated finish?.......bit before my time

just checked a catalogue and the '93 was the TT OX tubing...so you must be correct!

I don't think they were - I think you'll find it was this metallic green-y colour.

This has turned out to be very interesting. I swear on my dear mothers life that it is a 1995 model, that is when I bought it and it was brand spanking new. Perhaps there were minor spec. and paint colour differences between what DB sold in the southern and northern hemispheres. This will always remain pure specualtion.

DB is a mysterious company...were they ever based in Bermuda? I wouldn't buy one these days but the old one are good ones.

If any of the resident DB fanatics are interested in solving this little mystery I can ascertain the serial number under the bottom bracket and post it???

I don't think there's a difference in location. I just think it's a frame that was originally a 94 version of it. Not that it makes any tangible difference, because I suspect nothing changed much around that time - I suspect it was the same design (looks to have a rear canti hanger, for example) as a 95, or 96. It's just the colour - the colour seems to match the 94 edition. And between the years around 95, I think the notable difference was the groupset / parts used.

Bear in mind that the DB bikes we currently get in OZ are completely different to the rest of the world.

The bikes over here are made for pacific brands who licence the name- which is the only thing most of em have in common with the US/European ones.

No idea when it started tho......

Thing is, though - this frame doesn't look completely different from the '95 Apex that was known in other regions. It looks like a '94 Apex.

There's no need to think conspiracy or elaborate explanation - just think Occam's razor.

Well I think we have established that it is a mid 90's frame. Perhaps the bike guy got his hands on a replacement 1994, that would logically explain why he replaced it.

I'll post some more updates as she comes back to life. Currently on the porch semi stripped. Had a go last night with paint stripper - what a mess. Half the paint came off. Will need another go.

I have discovered a bit of rust which I will photograph and post as I would like an opinion as to whether it is serious or whether a product like Rust Remover will kill it.

BTW I am really enjoying communing with other bike nerds like me that understand my special needs. My wife has no idea...

Ive splashed some paint on the forks - it aint difficult at all.
I'm hoping the frame comes up just as well.
