1995-1996 ROCKSHOX JUDY SL (Yellow) = Tire Clearance 26"

Retro Newbie
Does anyone know what is the maximum tire clearance for 1995-1996 ROCKSHOX JUDY SL.
I tried to fit a 26" Continental Kryptotal 2.4 but the tire wall is jam at the Fork Brace/Arch.
What tyre sizing are you using for your JUDY SL?
2.0, 2.1, 2.2.....?

Had anyone experienced the FSX Rockshox Judy SL Fork Reinforced Arch.
Will it help to increase the space around the arch for bigger tyres?

Thanks for anyone help out there.

Have both an FSX and regular SL in front of me.
The FSX has an SRP reproduction brace.
With a 2.1" Dart, there is 14mm between tyre and brace on the standard one, 11mm on the FSX. Unfortunately I think you're going to have to rethink the tyre situation. :(

2.2 was generally seen as the largest possible tyre back in 94, so not much was designed for larger than that.
Remember though that rim width adds to overall tyre size.

Thanks Ben. I also did checked with SRP. They said their FSX arch does not help to increase tire clearance.

Thanks bikeworkshop. Yeah you are right back then in the 90's we don't have such bigger tires like to today....2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6....they were non-existence. 1.95, 2.0, 2.1 was what we had. Seem like 2.2 is the biggest to fit with the JUDY SL 1995-96.

Because I also had tried the 26" 2.3 Maxxis DHR II (Rear) + DHF 2.3 (Front). They work...but the clearance is too risky at only 4-5mm and I did experienced some tire rubbing the arch wall at a consistent spot while riding.

Looks like the choices are very little left. Maxxis 26" 2.2 Ardent Race & Maxxis 26" 2.2 Ikon.

You gotta ride like its '95🤠

If you set up 2.1/2.2 tubeless
(or even aerothan thermoplastic tubes)
you could drop the tyre pressure to 25psi and get the grip like 2.4 s👍

I run 1.95" Kenda Klimax's (345g) and TPU tubes on Rolf Propels with my Judy SL - definitely on the other end of the spectrum from that 2.4" monster tire!
