1994 Marin Team Marin 17" in absolutely excellent condi

Ah, the old "profiteering" subject rears it's ugly head again.

If the seller got it for less than he sold it for, good on him. It's still a fair price and someone was obviously happy to pay it.

No offense mate but the only way a 190 mile round trip could cost you £70 in petrol is if your driving a big rig and revving the balls off of it.

It's pretty clear you haven't been and looked at petrol prices lately then isn't it. Drive an old and powerful car and you could find yourself spending not too a million miles from that.

IWish try reading if you can

I never said it cost £70 probably half that plus the time and effort. I would love to keep it but its a tad small for my 6 foot frame. Also I already have 4 bikes and 3 to be restored, alone with a moaning( in a bad way ) girlfriend and have just been made redundant.......Give me a break.

So what price should I have advertised it at £120 ?

The seller covers his costs and gets a few quid for his effort. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

If it was blatant profiteering then he'd probably be breaking it down and selling it as parts on ebay. His asking price seems a good one to me, after all that's what really matters.

Finally, forum rules state
- Keep commentary on pricing to a minimum - the value of retro parts is very subjective.

- Some 'trading' is acceptable - wheeling and dealing is part of the retro scene.

No, you should advertise it for a fair price (which you have) - the price you paid for it is irrelevant but some people have an issue with it for absoutely no reason whatsoever.

There are some forum members (though none who have commented on this thread) who seem to feel that they're getting a bad deal if someone is selling a bike/bits for more than they paid for them, regardless of how good their sale price is.

I don't have an issue with it at all and I've been on the receiving end myself.

Good luck with the sale fella (unless you've already sold it in which case well done!).

Oh, and incidentally the next time someone comments on the price of one of your items for sale (which is against forum rules), then I'm sure you can have the post edited or removed by one of the moderators ;)

I think there should be temporary bans for making such comments. Cannot understand why people need to do this. The bike is a fair price - who cares what the seller bought it for.

If he had picked it up for £20, and it was worth £200, I suppose he's supposed to only ever sell it on at £20??????

i thought it was cheap at the 190 mark...just a pity its the mans version...marin made ladies models with shorter top tubes but i dont see many of these now anymore..
